Caupedactylus deliradamus è una nuova specie di Tapejaridae, ritrovata nella Romualdo Formation, Bacino di Araripe, in Brasile. Risale al Cretaceo Inferiore ed aveva un'apertura alare di almeno 5.5 metri. Come molti Tapejaridae, anche questa nuova specie possiede una sviluppatissima cresta ossea sulla testa: non si sa bene a cosa servisse, ma quelli che vengono interpretati come i segni di diffusa vascolarizzazione delle ossa della cresta potrebbe essere una prova di un possibile ruolo di questa nella termoregolazione dell'animale.
È da molto che attendo di poter pubblicare queste 3 ricostruzioni di pterosauri brasiliani (qui altri due animali: kronosaurus82.deviantart.com/a… kronosaurus82.deviantart.com/a… ).
Anche se recentemente altre ricostruzioni sono apparse sul sito del National Geographic, le mie sono le primissime, in quanto commissionate dal paleontologo Hebert Bruno Campos stesso oltre 18 mesi fa. Purtroppo le descrizioni di questi animali non sono ancora state pubblicate, quindi ho dovuto attendere fino ad ora per mostrare questi disegni, tutti espressamente richiesti senza sfondo.

Caupedactylus deliradamus it's a new Tapejaridae species, found in the Romualdo Formation, Bacino Basin, Brazil. It lived during Early Cretaceous, and had an estimated wingspan of no less than 5.5 meters (18 feet). As many other Tapejaridae, also this new species has a characteristic crest on its head: paleontologists still don't know exactly the use of this huge crest, but since it shows what are possibly blood vessels impressions, many think that crests could have a role in the animal thermoregulation.
I was waiting to publish these 3 Brazilian pterosaurs drawing from quite a while (here the other two beasts: kronosaurus82.deviantart.com/a… kronosaurus82.deviantart.com/a… ).
Even if recently other reconstructions appeared on the National Geographic website, mine are actually the very first ones, because they were commissioned by the paleontologist Hebert Bruno Campos himself over 18 months ago. Unfortunately official descriptions of these animals are still unpublished, so I had to wait until now to show these three drawings, all of them explicitly requested without a background scenario.
