Il "Limes" romano era il confine dell'impero. Ai confini dell'Impero Romano si trovavano sempre torri di guardia e, in mancanza di confini naturali come fiumi o montagne, venivano costruiti anche muri con fossati e terrapieni a rinforzo. Non sempre il confine era chiuso, anzi: le popolazioni che non erano parte dell'impero erano oltrepassavano il Limes per commerciare i loro prodotti nelle cittadine costruite presso il confine.
Nella mia illustrazione ho voluto immaginare una scena di tipo germanico.

The Roman "Limes" was the limit of the Roman Empire. At the borders of the Empire there always were watchtowers and – where there wasn't a natural limit like rivers or mountains – a wall reinforced with trenches and embankments. The Limes wasn't always closed; on the contrary, these people who weren't part of the empire used to cross the border to trade their products in towns near the Limes.
In my illustration I depicted a scene of the "german" type.
