Basta dire Stegosaurus armatus e chiunque, di qualunque età, sa di cosa state parlando. Lo Stegosauro è uno dei "fantastici 4", ovvero quei 4 dinosauri che tutti conoscono: gli altri sono il Tirannosauro, il Triceratopo ed il Brontosauro.
Certo, negli anni recenti anche il "raptor" è giunto sul palcoscenico, ma a causa della confusione fatta dai film di Jurassic Park, nessuno in realtà sa bene cosa sia un "raptor", menchè meno un Velociraptor.
Stegosaurus invece comunica immediatamente una immagine piuttosto precisa a chiunque, e non è difficile capire perchè: si tratta di un animale semplicemente spettacolare. Disegnarlo fu un vero piacere tanto quanto lo fu disegnare il "brontosauro" nelle tavole successive e poi il T. rex ed il Trike nell'ultimo libro, proprio perchè era il materializzarsi di uno dei miti della mia infanzia. E mi resi conto che "la realtà" del suo aspetto andava ben oltre le mie fantasie.

An abstract from the pencils – dated 2008 – I made for the graphic novel you can read in the 3rd book of the Dinosaurs series, published in several countries.

As you say Stegosaurus armatus anybody, of any age, knows what you're talking about. Stegosaurus is one of the "fantastic four", those 4 Dinosaurs known by everybody: the other three are Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops and Brontosaurus.
Sure, in later years also the "raptor" gained a lot of popularity, but because of the mess made by the Jurassic Park movies, nobody actually knows what a "raptor" really looks like, much less a Velociraptor.
On the opposite, Stegosaurus instantly pops in anybody mind a quite precise image, and it's not difficult to understand why: it is simply a spectacular beast.
Drawing it was a real pleasure just as a pleasure was to draw "Brontosaurus" in the following pages and then T. rex and Trike in the last book of the series, because it was the materializing of one of my greatest childhood myths. And when the task was over, I realized that the "reality" of its looks were far beyond my fantasies.
